Directions for Coffee Hour at Bethel

 

 

 

 

Things to buy ahead of time:

 

·              2 packages of cookies – 5 or 6 dozen (avoid anything with peanuts or peanut oil)

·              1 pint of half & half

·              3 or 4 coffee cakes or 4 dozen bagels

 

                                             

 

 

Preparation on Sunday:

Plan to arrive about half an hour before church begins.

If cabinets in kitchen are locked, get keys marked “COFFEE HOUR” from the back of the closet door in the staff office.

Supplies (coffee, tea, lemonade, paper goods) are stored in the two upper cabinets to the right of the refrigerator.  Extra supplies are in the lower cabinet left of the sinks.

New coffee pots are on the counter by the small sink.  Instructions are on the right-hand side of the coffee maker. 

Pump carafes are in the cabinet below the small sink.

Set tea bags out on counter.  Hot water dispensed from coffee maker.

Fill 2 pitchers with cold water.  Use lid of lemonade powder to measure the amount to make 2 quarts and add to each 2-quart pitcher; stir well, and refrigerate.  Fill a 3rd pitcher with water; add lemonade powder to the 3rd pitcher only if needed later.  Put the pitchers in the refrigerator.

Cut coffee cakes into small pieces for serving.  Serving plates are stored in the lower cabinets to the right of the refrigerator.

Put cookies on 2 trays; set them on the counter on the right of door.

Put 20 cold cups for lemonade on trays for easy service.

Take out hot cups, napkins, sugar, stirrers, cream pitcher or dry creamer for coffee service.

Leave the rolling shutters closed until church is over.

 

Serving:

Fill the cold cups with lemonade.

Add hot water to the tea carafe.

Put the coffee cakes, cream pitcher, sugar bowl, stirrers, and napkins on the small table outside the kitchen door.

Put the basket for donations on the counter next to the coffee pot.

Raise the shutters when you are ready to begin serving.


Clean Up:

Clean the coffee pots with hot soapy water and dry well with paper towels.

Periodically clean the sprayer nozzle in the coffee maker (above basket, push up and turn to release).

Wash all dishes and utensils with warm soapy water, rinse, and dry.

Put extra supplies, dishes and utensils away in the cabinets.

Dish towels are in the drawer to the right of the refrigerator.  Please take the used towels home to launder and return the next week.

Wipe off table tops in Schiffman Hall and the counters in the kitchen.

Check the floor for spills.

Take expenses from the donation basket.  Give remaining money to a trustee or place in an envelope marked “Coffee Hour Receipts” and leave it in the Treasurer’s mailbox in the staff office.

Return keys to staff office closet.

Collect all garbage from waste cans.  Tie bags and place in the metal trash bin in the parking lot.

Close and lock all windows and doors.  Leave slats of blinds open.  Turn off lights.

Please take home any leftover food or creamer.
